Mandi is the second most populous district in Himachal Pradesh. The earliest mention of the town could be found in the inscriptions at the Trilokinath temple dating to year 1442 Saka or 1520 A.D. The present Mandi district is an amalgam of former princely states of Mandi and Suket.
