Introduction to Solan District

Solan, HimachalSolan town is on the Kalka-Shimla route and is at present a bustling commercial town. Historically, it was a small principality called Baghat. Solan is a very small hill town, situated amidst the heights of Himachal Pradesh. The location of the hill resort is such that it falls quite close to a number of other popular hill stations of India. At the height of 1350 m, the undulating hills, enchanting valleys, delightful gorges and captivating greenery that surrounds the place lend it a charm that is impossible to shake off, even long after you have come back from your holidays.

Reaching there

Air: nearest airports are Shimla and Chandigarh.

Rail: Solan station on Kalka-Shimla narrow gauge.

Road: well connected by road from Chandigarh-Kalka, Shimla and many other places in the Pradesh.

Places of interest: Chail, Kasauli, Solan town with its temples, Sabathu, Nauni Horticulture University.

Altitude: 1350, Solan town to 2150 Chail.

Temperature: varies as per location, eg. Chail is salubrious in summer and cold in winter like Shimla; Kasauli is warm in summer but cold in winter.
